IMPORTANT EVENT UPDATE - 12:18pm, 24/12/2025
We regret to inform you that the Hanmer Springs Adventure Run, scheduled for 17 January 2026, has been cancelled.
Just before Christmas as we made our final preparation for this event, we were formally notified by the forestry management company that the roads and trails used across the majority of the course have been revoked to events due to newly identified health and safety risks identified following a major windstorm earlier this year.
As a result, the event can no longer be delivered in accordance with our event permit requirements, and there is currently no confirmed timeframe for when access to these trails and roads may be restored by the forestry manager.
This decision has not been taken lightly. We explored alternative options, including contingency routes; however, the extent of the closures means a viable and safe event is no longer possible.
Our team is currently working through the next steps and what this means for participants. With the Christmas period and upcoming public holidays, some steps may take longer than usual. We appreciate your patience during this time and will be back in touch with further information as soon as we are able in early January.
We understand how disappointing this will be, particularly for those who have been training or making travel plans form across the world. We appreciate your patience and understanding throughout what has been a challenging and evolving situation.
All participants have been communicated via email.

Run Wild. Finish LoudBorn from the legacy of the Hanmer Springs Alpine Marathon, the Hanmer Springs Adventure Run presented by Hanmer Holiday Homes, has been created as a celebration of trail running in the region.
The run is a high country trail running event set against the striking backdrop of Hanmer Springs. Starting and finishing in the heart of the village, you’ll head straight from the buzz of the start line into rugged climbs, alpine trails, and forested ridge lines before returning to town with a medal and a story. Choose from the 55km, 24km courses over Mt Isobel – Canterbury’s most climbed peak or take on the shorter 15km and 7km loop through hills and trail. However you finish, there’s one final challenge waiting: ringing the historic 1879 fire station bell to mark your achievement. |
The 55km Ultra Marathon course takes you over Mt Isobel, Canterbury’s most climbed peak and takes you deep into the Hanmer Forest, with more than 2,000m of climbing across rugged ridge lines, steep forest trails, and exposed alpine terrain. It’s 90% trail, 100% grit.
The 24km Adventure Run course is a true alpine trail experience, taking you high into the hills and over Mt Isobel – the most climbed peak in the Canterbury region. With 1,587m of vertical gain and 90% trail terrain, this is a run that challenges your legs and rewards your senses.
The 15km Hanmer Forest Run is flat, fast, and seriously fun. You’ll cruise wide trails, fly through golden poplars, and soak up all the forest feels — with a cheeky splash through the Percival River before the finish line. No big climbs, just pure Hanmer forest energy from start to finish.
Don’t let the distance fool you – the 7km course still packs the adventure and the full Hanmer trail experience. Designed for those chasing a taste of the adventure without the full mountain climb, this loop winds through hillside trails, forest tracks, and open views above the village.
